A day after landing a verbal commitment from Henry Krieger-Coble, the Hawkeyes pick up the 5th member of the 2011 class. Austin Vincent became the 3rd receiver (and second Austin) to commit. He is currently not rated by Scout or Rivals.

Vincent in High School

He currently attends DeSoto High School in DeSoto, Texas. DeSoto is a powerhouse in Texas and is often loaded with the top recruits. Last year, the Eagles went 9-3 and made it to the second round of the 5A Texas High School playoffs.

The Eagles love to spread the ball around in their passing attack. Vincent was actually 6th on the team last year in receptions out of the 11 players that had a catch. To this point, he has been largely outshone by some of the other receivers (there are 4 who could end up on Division I teams' rosters in 2011). Iowa actually offered Vincent's teammate Cameron White first, but he committed to TCU.

Stats:
  • Offense: 17 receptions, 214 yards, 2 touchdowns

Video!

Thoughts:
Iowa has really been hitting the receiver recruits hard as 3 of the 5 commits for 2011 are receivers. I think there is still room for 1 more in this class. Even with the video it's hard for me to get a good idea on what Vincent will bring to the program. His stats are somewhat underwhelming and his tape mostly shows him out on some simple routes. He will be an interesting player to watch his senior year of high school.
