Iowa picked up 3 commits early in the spring (Marcus Grant, JaCorey Shepherd, and Austin Blythe), but it has been relatively quiet on the recruiting front since then. Yesterday, the silence was broken as the Hawkeyes picked up the 4th commit for the 2011 class. Henry Krieger-Coble is a tight end from Mount Pleasant High School. From Iowa, he grew up a Hawkeyes fan...plus it doesn't hurt that his cousin is Iowa Basketball great Jess Settles (who is actually on Mount Pleasant's coaching staff). Krieger-Coble gets 3-stars from Rivals but is not ranked by Scout.

Krieger-Coble in High School

He played in just 5 games for the Mount Pleasant Panthers last season before sitting out with an injury. When he played, the Panthers went 4-1...when he didn't; they were just 1-3. He also helped the basketball team make it to the semi-finals of the state tournament before their season ended with a record of 22-2.

Stats:
  • Offense: 34 receptions, 491 yards, 6 TDs
  • Defense: 38 tackles

Thoughts:
Krieger-Coble's stats are definitely impressive, especially considering he played only 5 games last year. That averages out to about 10 catches per game for 100 yards and a touchdown. From what I can tell, he currently plays as a wide receiver in high school. But with his 6-4, 220 pound frame, he should fit the tight end role nicely. If he works hard on his blocking, then I think he could have a shot at playing early. Reisner will be gone next year and there isn't anyone proven behind him. I see Krieger-Coble in the same situation as C.J. Fiedorowicz is in this year.
