Solomon Warfield is a safety from Lakewood, OH. He is the third player to commit from Ohio, which is part of Brian Ferentz’s recruiting grounds (BF’s paying off already). He has an impressive list of offers including Penn State, Illinois, Pitt, Michigan State, and Arizona.

High School

Warfield attends St. Edwards High School. Last year the Eagles went 8-4 and made it to the second round of the Division 1 Ohio playoffs. Like many of the best athletes in high school, Warfield was his teams single safety in charge of cleaning up anything that got by the front 10.

Quick Analysis

Warfield is a consensus 3-star safety (Rivals, Scout, 247Sports, ESPN). He is fast enough to cover a large part of the field, so should fit well when Iowa plays cover 2. He is also very capable of playing up in the box and making plays against the run. He displayed some big hit ability in his video. Normally I'd say that would mean strong safety, but report have been that Phil Parker plans on using Tanner Miller as the in the box guy this year, and Miller is a free safety.

Anyway, there isn't a ton of depth at safety right now, so early playing time, especially on special teams, looks very probable.
