Sean Welsh was the second to commit on June 22, behind Andre Harris. Welsh is an offensive lineman from Ohio. He is one of the more heavily recruited players thus far in Iowa's recruiting class with offers from schools like Miami, Kansas, and West Virginia.

High School

Welsh plays for the Springboro Panthers in Springboro, OH. In 2011, Springboro only won 3 games (all on the road). Hopefully things will go better for the Panthers this year. Welsh is doing his part as the voted off-season captain of the team.

Quick Analysis

Welsh is a consensus 3-star OL (Rivals, Scout, 247sports, ESPN). He plays offensive tackle (and defensive tackle) in high school, but at 6-3, 275 he will likely be a guard for the Hawkeyes. His video really highlights some impressive run blocking. He shows good push off the line, but also the ability to maintain blocks down field, and good awareness. There isn't any immediate need on the offensive line, so Welsh will probably red-shirt. He may have a shot at playing time his red-shirt freshman year, but more realistic would probably be in 2015.
