Hawkeyes find some fourth quarter magic

The biggest story of this game is Marcus Coker, who ran for an Iowa bowl game record 219 yards on 33 carries. He has answered Iowa's running back question, and answered it in a big way. Wegher, Hampton, Robinson...I think the Hawkeyes will be just fine with Coker.

However, it is pretty hard to ignore that Iowa actually had a fourth quarter go its way after the struggles earlier this year. There were really three key plays that made the difference in crunch time. The first was Micah Hyde's pick six. Gabbert's throw was a terrible, terrible decision and Hyde made him pay with a crazy interceptions return.

Next was the 4th down incompletion with just over 2 minutes left. Initially it was ruled a catch on the field, but replayed showed that the receiver let the ball hit the ground as he was bouncing out of bounds. Iowa ball. (This play was set up by a perfectly dialed up blitz by James Morris that rushed Gabbert into a bad throw on 3rd down).

The final play that made the difference is why Ken O'Keefe is Iowa's offensive coordinator. On a 3rd-and-3, which had been a running down all game long, and less than a minute left in the game, everyone--me, you, the whole state of Arizona, and most importantly Missouri's defense--knew it was going to be a run by Coker... Play-action to Reisner, wide open with blockers in front of him, 39 yards and down at the 1. I which he would have been able to punch it in for the exclamation point, but that play was enough for Iowa to take a knee and run out the clock.

The future looks bright

One thing I noticed tonight was all of the young guys stepping up and making big plays. It was actually the seniors that looked a little rusty. Stanzi didn't have a great game and looked more like 2009 Stanzi with a couple of picks. Reisner dropped a few balls, and the seniors on the defensive were pretty quite. The underclassmen really stepped up though.

Freshmen
  • Coker is the obvious one, but definitely not the only.
  • James Morris looked like the best linebacker out there for Iowa. He was good in run support and decent against the pass (better than Johnson for sure).
  • Tanner Miller stepped in a safety and played well.
  • Mike Meyer nearly missed a PAT, but made both of his FGs, which were very important to the game's outcome.
Sophomores
  • I thought James Ferentz played well and had a huge block on Coker's long TD.
  • Hyde had the pick-six and at least had less balls thrown his directions than Prater.

The offensive line showed up

Coming into the game, Missouri's one weakness this year had been against the run. Iowa was able to exploit it with a dominating effort by the offensive line. Coker had big holes and cutback lanes to run through all night. The O-line was often getting to the second level and getting blocks on guys down field when Missouri was loading the box with 8 or 9 men consistently.

The blitz pick up was also tremendous. I had read a lot of the Tiger's aggressive defense that likes to blitz and bring pressure from all over the field. How they average over 3 sacks per game and would surely test Stanzi. Well, Iowa's offensive line didn't allow a single sack. The one time Stanzi was pressured he skirted one tackled and was able to turn it into a 7-yard gain.

The offensive line loses Vandervelde and Koeppel next year, but stepping right up will be Gettis and MacMillan who both have about half of a season's worth of starting experience. The offensive line should be very solid next year and it'll be fun to see what Coker can do behind it.

Keys to the game revisited

The Fourth Quarter - Success! Iowa was able to overcome a bad interception thrown by Stanzi with a couple of huge plays. The fourth quarter was wild and crazy and one to remember.

The First Quarter - More success. All the so-called distractions didn't seem to be bother Iowa at the beginning of the game. They came out sharp and move right down the field to go up 7.

Running the Ball - You get the idea.

Final thoughts for tonight

  • Hopefully this is a game that Iowa can leverage to start a streak of close games that are wins, a la Penn State in 2008.
  • This win definitely eases some of the pains from the 5-loss, disappointing season. It sends the seniors, which have done some great things in their 4/5 years here, off on a nice note.
  • I cannot say enough about Coker. He looked like Shonn Greene v2.0 out there at times. It may have taken a couple of transfers, a couple of injuries, and a suspension, but the Hawkeyes have found their running back.
  • The defense and the offense were frustrating at times tonight, but seriously, Norm Parker and Ken O'Keefe are doing a great job. I think KOK called a game to Iowa's strengths and did a great job sticking with the true freshman running back instead of trying to rely on a senior quarterback when it was obvious the run game was working. The call at the end of the game was perfect too. The defense definitely struggled at times to stop Gabbert, but the bend-but-don't-break worked. Blitzes were called at the right times and big plays were made when they were needed.
  • I vote to give Micah Hyde a shot as a kick/punt returner. Sandemann and Chaney (and DJK) are all gone and Hyde has been dynamic the couple of times he has had the ball in his hands.
  • Final thought...does Iowa end up ranked in the final polls? I could see some voters sneaking the Hawks back in at #25. A record of 8-5 is a pretty tough sell, but wins over Michigan State and Missouri are impressive and the losses were all by less than a score.

Insight Bowl: Game Day

The need to know
What: Insight Bowl - Iowa vs. Missouri
Where: Sun Devil Stadium, Tempe, AZ
When: 9:00 PM
TV: ESPN

Keys to the game: (A lot of obvious ones today)

The Fourth Quarter - Iowa has really struggled in the 4th quarter this year and has given up a late TD in all 5 of its losses. As with most Hawkeye games, this one figures to be close and low scoring. Both teams have very good defenses and aren't giving up very many points this year. So, if/when this game comes down to the wire, Iowa needs to put the 4th quarter woes behind them and somebody needs to step up and make a timely play.

The Insight Bowl's tomorrow already

I have been off enjoying my time away from work just relaxing on the couch mostly. The football team however, is working hard in Arizona preparing for the Insight Bowl tomorrow night. A bunch of reporters are down in AZ too working through the holidays. So anyway, here are a few stories that have come out in the past few days.

Brad Rogers out for bowl

Make that one more running back out for the bowl game... Rogers is mainly a fullback and was listed as the second stringer there, but has played enough running back in the past that it is reasonable to think that he could have backed up Coker/O'Meara in the bowl game. However, Rogers failed a cardiology test and now must sit. Hopefully it's nothing serious or career threatening. Rogers is only a red-shirt freshman and will likely be the starting fullback for the next three years if healthy.

Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas everyone. I hope you're all enjoying the holidays and the time off of work. My Christmas was filled with Black & Gold spirit. I got a new Hawkeye hoodie, hat, and scarf that will all go along nicely with my Iowa gloves. So the next time there is a home game in the blistery cold I'll be well prepared. Actually with all this snow (hence the snow in the background of this site...sorry about the cheesiness and CPU drain!) and the cold weather we've been having I can use them all now. Anyway, have a great couple of days off, Merry Christmas, and Go Hawks!

Missouri has a very aggressive and effective defense. They do give up some yardage, but capitalize on big plays and are devastating in the redzone. As a result, the Tigers are allowing less than 20 points per game.

The reason the defense is so effective is that they generate a lot of pressure by being aggressive with blitzes. They average over 3 sacks per game. The pressure also lead to takeaways and easy to defend short passes.

Adrian Clayborn a consensus All-American

The NCAA released their list of consensus All-Americans yesterday, and Adrian Clayborn made the cut. He is just the 21st Hawkeye to earn the honor. Clayborn became a consensus by making the American Football Coaches Association and the Walter Camp teams.

I have to admit I'm a little surprised that Clayborn is an All-American. His production this year was not as strong as last year and not as impressive as some of the other defensive linemen out there. I believe this was kind of a The Return of the King winning Best Picture type of thing, where it wasn't so much that he had a great year, but had a great career and a ton of hype this year following his amazing Orange Bowl.

Jacob Rudock
Playoffs, Florida Class 5A Championship W Tampa Plant 7 - St. Thomas Aquinas 29 | (15-0)

Aquinas won it's 6th state title on Friday with big plays on offense and a dominant defense. The Raiders had a hard time finishing their drives early and settled for two early field goals. Two quick touchdowns in the second quarter, though, made the game 20-7 at half time. From there the defense really took over and Tampa Plant went scoreless in the second half. Aquinas added another field goal in the 3rd quarter, then following an interception Rudock connected on a long pass play to seal the game.

Rudock had several big pass plays on Friday night including 34 and 74-yard touchdowns. He finished the game 13 of 23 for 283 yards with 2 TDs and no INTs.

The Raiders were previously ranked the #2 high school team in the nation by ESPN. The top team, Euless Trinity in Texas, lost on Friday, so look for St. Thomas Aquinas to win the high school "nation championship" when the new rankings are released today.

It's bowl time

Every day a star is born. Today it may be you. - Norm Parker

Bowl season is among us. There are 3 games today (New Mexico: BYU-UTEP, Humanitarian: Northern Illinois-Fresno St., and New Orleans: Ohio-Troy) and there has finally been a shift from talking about off the field issues to talking about the Insight Bowl. Ferentz, along with Ken O'Keefe and Norm Parker, met with the press yesterday to discuss the upcoming bowl game. The best part of the presser was just having Norm back healthy and as witty as ever.

Quick hits

Ferentz:
  • Injuries - Tarpinian is doing better and has a shot at playing. Sandeman is 100%. Gettis and MacMillan are rusty but could provide some depth on the O-line.
  • Receiver - Filling in for DJK will be kind of a committee approach. Chaney will be the other kick returner with Davis, but Sandeman, McNutt, and Nordmann will also have to step up.
  • Since the bowl game is the last game, there will be no holding Coker back. He will get the majority of the carries.
  • Unsurprisingly, Ferentz has not thought a lot about the division names or the new trophies.

Parker:
  • Health - Norm has feeling better and has been out on the practice field and in the office. He expects to be back next year.
  • Missouri's offense - They run an offense like Northwestern only more bizarre. They use unbalanced formations and spread the ball around quickly.
  • Quote of the day - "You start to get out of bed, you say, Oh, $#!%, I only got one leg on, I better get the other leg on."

New Big Ten logo and division names

Kind of lost in all the craziest this week is that the Big Ten unveiled it's new logo, the names for the two football divisions, and 18 new trophies/award that will be handed out.
While the new logo is rather ugly, at least the color anyway, and it's not nearly as clever as the BIG1T1EN logo, it is the new division names that are truly terrible. Legends and Leaders. Iowa is in the Legends division along with Minnesota, Michigan, Michigan State, Northwestern, and Nebraska. I'm not exactly sure what the Big Ten was thinking on these, but they missed the boat. But I guess in a year or two, we'll all be used to it and it won't be a big deal.

Hawkeye Recruit Roundup: Week 16

Only one future Hawkeye was in action this past week, so I'm not doing a full out round up with all the extra information on the bottom of the post today.

Jacob Rudock
Playoffs, Semifinals W Bradenton Manatee 7 - St. Thomas Aquinas 37 | (14-0)

The last time these two teams met was the Florida 5A semifinals last year. Manatee came out on top ending a 37-game winning streak by Aquinas. Aquinas has not lost a game since and were determined for their new winning streak to not end in the hands of Manatee again.

The Raiders got their revenge. A big difference in this game was red zone efficiency. Manatee had 3 trips to the red zone but came away with only 7 points. Aquinas had 4 trips to the red zone and scored a TD on each. The Raiders' rushing attack was in top gear and that helped propelled them to victory. They had 251 rushing yards and all the touchdowns scored were on the ground. A a result, Rudock didn't need to do much other than hand off the ball. He threw for just 137 yards on 10/18 passing with no TDs or INTs.

Aquinas will play Tampa Plant, the defending champions, this Friday (tomorrow) in a rematch of the 2008 championship game. Tampa Plan is 12-2 this year, but it currently on a 9-game winning streak.

Next Game: vs. Tampa Plant - 12/17 (Playoffs, Florida Class 5A Championship Game)

Quick thoughts on the press conference

The press conference of doom turned out to be less gloomy than expected. There are no more suspension for the bowl game at this time and aren't expected to be any more (pending someone doing something stupid in the next two weeks). Jewel Hampton's transfer and Adam Robinson's suspension are in no way related to DJK's arrest. And, yes there were drug tests done recently, but it was nothing out of the ordinary and they did not involve the entire team. That's about it. The rest mostly dealt with Iowa's drug testing program, which goes above and beyond what is required. There are some flaws with the program, which they admitted to, but I thought it sounded for the most part reasonable. If you're interested in everything that was said, here is the transcript of the press conference.

I hope this puts all the rumors to rest. It was getting kind of ridiculous the last couple of days. Ferentz said media members were calling players' parents trying to get information; there were plenty of baseless rumors flying around on message boards, Twitter, and just about everywhere; even some sports radio hosts were throwing players under the bus with nothing to back it up. I think it's time to drop it. (I still may write a little more if people don't drop it, but would prefer to move on to the Insight Bowl and Missouri.)

Robinson out for bowl, Hampton gone...

Yesterday was crazy. Iowa leaked to the media that there was going to be a press release at 3:00 that would address Jewel Hampton's status. Well, 3:00 turned into 5:30 when the official statement was actually released. For those 2 and a half hours, the Hawkeye fanbase waited anxiously expecting the worst. The release itself was rather bland though. Jewel Hampton has decided to transfer, which had already been assumed, and Adam Robinson will not practice for or play in the Insight Bowl. The Robinson story is new, but given some of the rumors, not a surprise. He has the option to rejoin the team when the spring semester starts.

Here's the actual release:

IOWA CITY, IA – Sophomore running back Jewel Hampton has decided to leave the University of Iowa. And, sophomore running back Adam Robinson will not be part of the Hawkeye team that makes the trip to Arizona for the Insight Bowl. The announcement was made today by Head Football Coach Kirk Ferentz.

"Jewel Hampton has decided to leave the team and plans to transfer to another school to complete his degree and finish his career. We wish him the best of success in the future," said Ferentz.

"While Adam has been cleared medically, he will not be participating in the upcoming Insight Bowl game as a result of failing to comply with team expectations and policies. Adam will have the option to rejoin the team when classes resume in January."

Hampton, a 5-9, 210-pounder from Indianapolis, IN, has been plagued by injury problems during his three years at Iowa. He has rushed for 577 yards and scored eight touchdowns as a Hawkeye. He was injured in the Arizona game earlier this season and was lost for the season following surgery.

Robinson, a 5-9, 205-pound back from Des Moines, IA, led the team in rushing with 941 yards and 10 touchdowns on the ground.

The big news, however, may be that Ferentz and AD Gary Barta are holding a press conference today at 10:00 a.m. to "discuss running back Jewel Hampton's transfer and the status of running back Adam Robinson." Iowa is saying this is essentially a Q&A opportunity, but rumors are saying it is something more. We will see.

Wegher and Hampton to transfer

Let's just keep it simple this morning. For one, my laptop is down again (I think/hope that it's just the power cord) so I am somewhat limited to what I can do on my iPod. Also, yes, I've read the rumors and yes, they are bad. But we'll have to play the wait-and-see game and wait for something more official, or ya know, a Facebook stays change.

One thing we know for sure, though, is that Brandon Wegher is transferring. He was released from his scholarship with the stipulation that he doesn't play on scholarship for another Big Ten school. Thus news isn't too surprising since Wegher left the team before the season started and everything pointed towards a departure. But we all still kind of hoped he would return considering the woes Iowa had with running back injuries this year.

The other departure at least semi-confirmed is of Jewel Hampton who posted on Facebook that he is a "former Hawkeye." There were already plenty of rumors on the message boards that were circling around Hampton's status. I'm not going to guess the circumstances of his transfer at this point. I will say though, that he's had a couple of tough years here at Iowa with two season ending injuries. If a change of scenery is what he needs, then I'm okay with that.

This has already been a crazy month, but depending on the validity of some of the rumors, this could go down as on of the craziest months in Iowa football history. If Coach Ferentz can somehow get the troops to rally to beat a good 10-2 Missouri team despite all these distractions, then I'm calling for a revote on Coach of the Year.

A long week

It has been a rough week for Iowa football fans...a rough month really. The week started off Sunday when it was announced that Iowa would play Missouri in the Insight Bowl. There is nothing wrong with Missouri or the Insight Bowl, but when playing Nebraska was a "sure thing" it is kind of disappointing that we'll have to wait another year to begin the rivalry.

Then there was the whole DJK thing. I've already written about how I feel about DJK, but didn't really mention the impacts it would have to the team for the bowl game. My hope is that mentally, it won't have an effect on the team. It's just one player that won't be there. Maybe it'll actually have a positive effect as I suspect (as do many others) that perhaps DJK wasn't the best of teammates in the locker-room. There's no denying however, that DJK was a play-maker on the field and other plays are going to need to step up.
Sandeman will most likely be the starter opposite of McNutt. He has had a nice career at Iowa, but has had a few injuries slow him down. Last year he had an excellent showing in the Orange Bowl and another big day in a bowl would be a great way for a senior to go out. Keenan Davis has mostly played behind McNutt, but could see some time in DJK vacant spot. He will also likely be the number 1 kick returner. I'm not sure who else fills in there...maybe Paul Chaney.

The last piece of bad news Iowa fans got this week was that Christian French committed to Oregon yesterday. French was one of the more highly-touted recruits out of the state of Iowa this year. He went to Cedar Rapids Kennedy but is not originally from Iowa so didn't grow up a Hawkeye fan. Still he had Iowa on his list and it's not often that an instate kid slips out of Iowa's grasp unless he grew up a Cyclone fan.

So now it's time to move on. There is still a chance to finish this season on a positive note with a bowl win over a ranked, 10-2, Missouri team. There are still some more recruits out there with Iowa on their radar. And, there isn't much reason to worry about DJK ever again.

Jacob Rudock
Playoffs, Regional Finals W Boyd Anderson 6 - St. Thomas Aquinas 46 | (13-0)
Aquinas was stifling on defense and held Boyd Anderson to -26 yards rushing on 28 attempts and just 86 yards of total offense. The only time Boyd Anderson was able to move the ball was late in teh fourth quarter when the game was out of reach and they connected on a 58 yard TD pass. On the other side of the ball, Rudock and the offense (who had amazing field position all day) scored 7 TDs and added a FG. Rudock didn't have his best day going 10/17 for 116 with 1 TD and 1 INT, but did more than enough to get the win.

Next Game: vs. Bradenton Manatee - 12/10 (Playoffs, State Semifinals)

Austin Vincent
Playoffs, Quarterfinals: L Stony Point 72 - DeSoto 48 | (11-3)
Apparently they don't play much defense in Texas because it's not often that you can score 48 poinst and still lose by 24. The big difference is the game was the second quarter as DeSoto was outscored 0-21. It was a similar outcome when the teams met earlier this year, but this time it eliminates DeSoto from the playoffs.

DJK arrested on drug charges

News broke last night that Derrell Johnson-Koulianos had been arrested and suspended from the team. Marc Morehouse broke the news and has the whole story on the charges and a copy of the court document. What it basically boils down to is that DJK lived with a drug dealer and was doing drugs (marijuana, cocaine, and prescription drugs) himself. He is now faced with 7 drug-related charges and is making an initial court appearance this morning.

Coach Ferentz released a statement that DJK is suspended, which probably means his career at Iowa is over: "I am highly disappointed to learn of the charges. Derrell has been suspended from all team activities."

I have long bit my tongue and have not publicly acknowledged my disapproval for DJK. I told my family over Thanksgiving that he was my least favorite Hawkeye ever. I generally try not to say too much negative about a player. They are just college kids after all and are not paid to play. The personal attacks of Iowa players this past month via Facebook were terrible. But DJK is making it too hard not to say something now.

BlogPoll: Week 14

There was very little movement in my ballot this week. Most of the top 25 didn't play, and those who did won. Nebraska and Missouri both get knocked for the Huskers loss in the Big 12 Championship Game. Northern Illinois drops out as they lost in the MAC Championship Game, and then lost their coach to Minnesota. In the Huskies place, UCF rejoins the top 25 beating SMU to win C-USA.

Insight Bowl

What: Iowa vs. Missouri
Where: Sun Devil Stadium, Tempe, AZ
When: 9:00 PM, December 28th
TV: ESPN

It is fitting that after an extremely disappointing season that Iowa is headed to a disappointing bowl game to face as disappointing opponent. Not that Missouri is a bad opponent per se. They had a good season, finished 10-2, and are ranked in the top 15. They are in a state that borders Iowa and there are actually a handful of Iowa players from that state. They were schedule to play Iowa earlier this decade but back out which left some bad blood between the school. So that makings for some kind of excitement is there. But Missouri is just not exciting.

Part of it is the fact that there was a lot of speculation that Iowa would be playing Nebraska, which would have been an awesome preview to next year's 12-team Big Ten. Another part of it is that Iowa could have been playing in a much better bowl game against a higher profile opponent. Even after losing to Minnesota (sorry to bring that up) Iowa still had a shot at the Outback Bowl (they were for sure going to get the bid before the loss) or the Gator Bowl, but were jumped by both Penn State and Michigan, two teams they beat, and fell down to the Insight Bowl. Either one of the other bowls would have provided a match up with a SEC team, either Florida or Mississippi State.

And one last thing...the Insight Bowl is played in Tempe, Arizona at 9:00 PM (CST) on Tuesday December 28th. There are a lot of Iowans living in Arizona that will snatch up tickets to this game, but for fans that already traveled to the Arizona game earlier this year, I would guess they are not as excited about a return visit. I could be wrong on that though...maybe people are tired of going to Florida for bowl games. The late kickoff is also annoying. At least the game is on ESPN this year instead of the NFL Network so I can watch it from home. But still, I have to stay up late on a Tuesday night. It's not a big deal by any means, just annoying.

But hey. It's still a bowl game and given Iowa's past maybe I should just be happy with that. If Iowa's wins I'll be excited and it'll provide some momentum into the off season that will hopefully turn the attitude about the program around.

Injury = Opportunity

About a year ago I wrote a post titled "Injuries - The Silver Lining" to highlight the fact that even though some key injuries may have cost Iowa one or two game last year, the backups got meaningful experience which would help the team down the road. Well...I think I should have saved that post for this year. Besides the extremely impactful injury to Ricky Stanzi, last year does not really compare to this year in terms of youth gaining experience due to injuries. This year, injuries really just hit two areas, really, really hard: runningback and linebacker.

Out: Adam Robinson, Jewel Hampton, Paki O'Meara, and Jason White; In: Marcus Coker
Basically every runningback who we thought last winter would factor into Iowa's rushing attack this year either missed part of the season, or the whole season. Even the young beneficiary of playing time missed the first 6 weeks of practice with a broken collar bone. Coker though looked impressive the last month of the season. Yes, he has made his share of freshman mistakes, but he has been one of the bright spots during a very dark time.

Out: Jeff Tarpinian, Jeremiha Hunter, Troy Johnson, Tyler Nielsen, and Bruce Davis; In: James Morris and Shane DiBona
Both the Out and the In list could actually go one. Iowa used 10 different linebackers this year and of the 6 linebackers listed on the original 2-deeps in August only 1, Lance Tillison, played in every game this year. James Morris, though, also played in every game and was the starting MLB the last 5 weeks. He too had his share of true freshman mistakes, but is the future at MLB and his future looks very bright. DiBona also started a couple games late in the year and is probably the favorite right now for the WLB spot next year.

A few others:
  • Out: Brett Morse; In: Brad Rogers - Rogers started one game and looked good at fullback.
  • Out: Daniel Murray; In: Mike Meyer - Another freshman who made some mistakes, but overall played well and should have a good future with the Hawkeyes.
  • Out: Shaun Prater, Micah Hyde; In: B.J. Lowery, Greg Castillo - Castillo saw quite a bit of time last year too as a backup. Lowery didn't play much, but saw meaningful action in the last game when both corners were injured.

All 3 future Hawkeyes in still in action won their playoff games last week. Riley McMinn became the second champion (joining Cole Fisher) as his team won the Illinois Class 4A Championship.

Riley McMinn
Playoffs, Illinois Class 4A Championship: W Alleman 7 - Rochester 24 | (14-0)
The Illinois Class 4A Finals were set perfectly...two previously unbeaten teams going head-to-head. The game, however, didn't turn out to be as close as expected with Rochester dominating after the first quarter. Tied 7-7 after the first, Rochester scored the next 17 points and rolled up 414 yards of total offense. The defense was also dominant. McMinn had 2 of the Rocket's 7 sacks and helped the defense hold Alleman to just 119 yards and 7 points.

Season Over

Jacob Rudock
Playoffs, Regional Semifinals W Cooper City 7 - St. Thomas Aquinas 49 | (12-0)
Rudock threw 5 touchdowns in the first half as Aquinas cruised to an easy second round victory. The Raiders will have a rematch with Boyd Anderson on Friday night. The teams met back in September and Aquinas won 52-13.

Next Game: vs. Boyd Anderson - 12/03 (Playoffs, Regional Finals)

Call off the search party. I'm back. My computer's operability went AWOL a week ago so I didn't take it along when I spent time with family over Thanksgiving weekend. So, I was left posting from my iPod Touch. Combine that with the horrible game on Saturday, and I didn't feel the need to post much in the past week.

My laptop is now up and running again (I guess it needed a vacation too), so I'm back. It should be the usual for the time being. I have a recruit round up on its way and I'll try to get my BlogPoll ballot up (better late than never). I probably won't write much about the Minnesota game and we have like 8 months to rehash this season. So for now, hopefully the bowl game will be decent and will provide at least something to look forward to. Then we can erase this past month from memory, a la 2006-2007.
