Kirk Ferentz gets his 100th win

I'm sure that wasn't the way Coach Ferentz wanted to get his 100th win, but a sloppy and very lucky win is still a win. So, congratulation to Coach Ferentz for reaching a really cool milestone: 100 wins.

Iowa #13 all around

Despite the very unimpressive victory over Indiana, Iowa moves up to #13 in the AP Poll, Coaches' Poll, and the BCS. Iowa is no longer the top ranked 2-loss team, as Alabama fell just a few spots after losing to LSU and are still ahead of the Hawkeyes.

Mike Meyer named the Big Ten Special Teams Player of the Week

Meyer earned his first POTW award of his young career for his 12-point performance on Saturday. Meyer went 4/5 on field goals and made a career long 42-yarder in the 4th quarter. With 4 FGs, Meyer nearly doubled his season total going from 5/6 to 9/11. He's making over 80% of his FGs, which for a true-freshman is good enough in my books, though the misses from inside of 30 yards is sure frustrating.

Stanzi and Clayborn award semifinalists

Ricky Stanzi is a semifinalist for the Maxwell Award which is given annually to the nation’s top college football player. He is one of only 16 to make the list. Iowa has had 2 Maxwell award winners in the past: Nile Kinnick in 1939 and Chuck Long in 1985.

Adrian Clayborn is a semifinalist list for the Chuck Bednarik Award which is given annually to the best defensive player. Like the Maxwell list, there are 16 semifinalists for this award too. Iowa has never had a player when the Bednarik Award.

DJK breaks another record

I didn't take long. On Iowa's first drive of the game and just the 8th play from scrimmage, Stanzi found DJK open for a 6-yard gain along the sideline. The catch made DJK the Iowa all-time leader in career reception. He had 5 more catches on the day and upped his total to 163 receptions (the previous record was 157 by Kevin Kasper). DJK had previously broken the career receiving yard record a few weeks ago and in closing in on the both the season and career touchdown records. He needs 3 more TDs to tie the season record (11 by Maurice Brown) and 5 more to tie the career record (21 by Tim Dwight).

Bullets

  • Adam Robinson is set to return to practice Tuesday and should be ready to go for the Northwestern game.
  • How about the basketball team, huh? Fran's clan put up 111 points in their exhibition game on Sunday night.
  • ESPN's College GameDay is headed to Columbus this week for Ohio State vs. Penn State. It is kind of a strange pick with an unranked PSU and likely means that they will not be headed to Iowa City next weekend.
  • An updated depth chart was released today. Notable changes: Koeppel followed by MacMillan at right guard, no Gettis; Daniels and Ballard are the starters, Binns is a back up; Tarpinian is back in the 2-deeps.
