Hawkeye Recruit Roundup: Week 3

It was another good week for the Hawkeye recruits with only 2 losses on the board. There were a lot of good games, like DeSoto's 1-point OT win. And there were also some blowouts, like Barron Collier's defensive domination that forced 4 safeties. Jake Duzey gets my player of the week award for his 7 catches for 143 yards and scored his team's lone touchdown in a loss.

Ray Hamilton
W Padua Franciscan 14 - Strongsville 28 | (1-2)
Hamilton had a nice night in Strongsville first win of the season. On the night he caught five passes for 65 yards and a touchdown. You can see two of his catches in this highlight video from the game (Hamilton is #11). He also has a good post on his blog about learning from mistakes that he wrote after losing last week to Mentor.

Austin Blythe
W Williamsburg 48 - Mt. Vernon 0 | (3-0)
Williamsburg won its third straight game soundly. The game in the trenches and were led by Blythe. From the Press Citizen about Blythe, "the 6-foot-3, 290 pound senior played both ways Friday night but was especially disruptive on the defensive side of the ball." The Raider's defense held Mt. Vernon to 0 yards on 32 rushing attempts.

Austin Vincent
W Miramar 41 - DeSoto 42 | (3-0)
This game was a thriller that went to overtime. After DeSoto scored a touchdown to begin the overtime, Miramar answered the score and decided to go for 2. DeSoto was able to fend off the 2-point conversion and secured a 1-point victory. Vincent had 2 catches for 60 yards and a 42-yard TD.

Next Game: vs. Round Rock Stony Point - 09/17

Jake Duzey
L Clarkston 42 - Athens 10 | (1-2)
Duzey scored the lone touchdown for Athens on a TD catch to open the second half. That was about the only then that went right as Athens got routed by Clarkston. Duzey earned offensive player of the game from his coaches as he finished the game with 7 catches for 143 yards.

Riley McMinn
W Jerseyville 0 - Rochester 46 | (3-0)
Rochester cruised to its 3rd straight victory in a route of Jerseyville on Friday. The defense blanked Jerseyville holding them to just 123 total yards. No mentions of McMinn were found.

Next Game: at Sacred Heart-Griffin - 09/17

Cole Fisher
W Omaha Central 7 - Millard North 22 | (2-1)
Fisher had a big role in Millard North's second victory of the year. He record two interceptions on Friday night, including 1 that he returned 32 yards setting up the Mustangs final TD. Millard North trailed 2-7 at half time but shut out Omaha Central in the second half and rallied for a 15-point win.

Jordan Walsh
W Glenbard West 28 - Hinsdale Central 7 | (3-0)
Glenbard West used 2 turnovers and a kickoff return for a TD and turned it into its third win of the year. Walsh gets a mention for playing an "amazing game" and for being the "best lineman in the state."

Next Game: vs. Oak Park-River Forest - 09/18

Melvin Gordon
W Park 6 - Bradford 56 | (3-0)
Gordon had yet another big night as Bradford ran all over Park. Bradford had 423 yards on the ground. Gordon made up 91 of those yards on 8 carries including touchdown runs of 5, 5, and 24 yards.

Torrey Campbell
W Choice Learning Academy 0 - Barron Collier 49 | (1-2)
Barron Collier scored on 4 safeties (FOUR!) and a handful of touchdowns while blanking Choice Learning Academy (whose football program is in its first year). No mentions of Campbell were found.

Next Game: vs. Palmetto Ridge - 09/17

John Raymon
L Council Rock North 0 - Central Bucks South 42 | (0-2)
Council Rock North had a pretty terrible night on all degrees struggling without its starting running back that  was injured last week. They gave up nearly 400 yards and 42 point, while only putting up 123 yards and 0 points resulting in a big loss. No mentions of Raymon were found.

Next Game: vs. Hatboro-Horsham - 09/16

Henry Krieger-Coble
Postponed Fairfield - Mt. Pleasant | (0-2)
This game was postponed last Friday, and then they tried to play it on Monday only to have to postponed again due to lightning. They will try to play this game tonight (though the forecast shows a chance of storms again).
