For the Iowa Hawkeyes, the first week of the season starts today. We're now just 5 days away from kickoff. Many of the commits from the 2011 recruiting class, however, started their seasons last week.

Ray Hamilton
L Euclid 9 - Strongsville 5 | (0-1)
Hamilton started off the season all wrong. Not only did his team lose in the sloppy, defensive game, he struggled to make plays against a cornerback 9 inches shorter. On a 4th and goal he had a ball batted away in front of him and had another one intercepted in front of him on the 6 yard line with less than 2 minutes remaining.

Next Game: vs. Mentor - 09/03

Austin Blythe
W Williamsburg 55 - Center Point-Urbana | (1-0)
Blythe helped his team to an easy victory on Friday night. He can be seen in this KCRG video pass blocking on a few plays and in on a tackle on defense.

Next Game: vs. Mt. Pleasant - 09/03

Austin Vincent
W De Soto 56 - Leander 35 | (1-0)
Vincent had a quite night in a victory over Leander. He did however have one really big catch for a 45-yard touchdown that sparked a 36-point fourth quarter for De Soto.

Next Game: vs. Bowie - 09/06

Jake Duzey
W Mott 19 - Athens 31 | (1-0)
Duzey led the way to an opening week win for Athens. He was a big contributor in both the running and passing game, and even had a 53-yard kickoff return to start the second half. He carried the ball 7 times for 70 yards and had 3 receptions for another 49 and a TD.

Next Game: at Pontiac - 09/03

Riley McMinn
W Lincoln 7 - Rochester 56 | (1-0)
Rochester racked up nearly 600 yards of offense as the team rolled to its first victory. I couldn't find any mention of McMinn.

Next Game: vs. Jacksonville - 09/03

Cole Fisher
L Millard North 6 - Creighton Prep 7 | (0-1)
A missed extra point and a missed last minute field-goal cost Millard North its first game on Friday. The good news, though, is that Fisher was able to play in this game after tearing his ACL during basketball season.
Next Game: vs. Burke - 09/02

Jordan Walsh
W Glenbard South 7 - Glenbard West 41 | (1-0)
Glenbard West scored on 6 of its first 8 possessions and cruised to a big win. They rushed for over 200 yards behind the offensive line led by Walsh.
Next Game: at Downers Grove South - 09/03

Melvin Gordon
W Burlington 14 - Bradford 49 | (1-0)
Gordon ran for 97 yards and 3 TDs, including a 41-yarder, leading the way to a Bradford win. He had another 60 yards receiving. In total Bradford put up nearly 500 yards of offense in its 35 point win.
Next Game: at Stevens Point - 09/03

Henry Krieger-Coble
L Mt. Pleasant 20 - Clear Creek-Amana 28 | (0-1)
Krieger-Coble had an excellent game Friday night, but his team came up just short in an 8-point loss. Krieger-Coble had two interceptions on defense and had 4 catches for 80 yards and a TD on offense.

Next Game: at Williamsburg - 09/03

Jacob Rudock
W Coral Glades 0 - St. Thomas Aquinas 49 | (1-0)
The Raiders had a tune-up preseason game last Thursday. Rudock was 3 of 4 passing for 114 yards and 3 TDs. That's right...all 3 of his completions went for touchdowns and equates to a QB rating of 749.2! He was quickly benched to give his backup some reps, and then his backup was 4 of 4 for 103 yards, but only 1 TD. The only thing that went wrong was that Rudock had a fumble when he was sacked, though it was recovered by the Raiders.

Next Game: at Dallas Skyline - 09/06

Torrey Campbell
L Barron Collier 2 - South Fort Myers 23 | (0-1)
Campbell's team was on the losing side in a pre-season game. He was satisfied with his personal performance though, and said on Twitter that he shutdown the #1 receiver in Florida. However, in this picture he is trying to chase down a receiver on the way to a 60-yard TD from behind (though this may not have been the guy he was covering).

Next Game: at Immokalee - 09/03

Did not play:
  • Mike Orloff & Marcus Grant - Lawrence Academy | Next Game: vs. Milton - 09/25
  • John Raymon - Council Rock | Next Game: vs. Father Judge - 09/03

[Update: Added information on Torrey Campbell.]
