John Raymon was the second installment of the 3-part commitathon that took place yesterday. Raymon is the first defensive player of the 2011 Iowa commits and the seventh overall. He is not currently rated by either Scout or Rivals.

Raymon in High School

Raymon attends Council Rock North in Newtown, PA. In 2009 the Indians were just 5-5 and really struggled on the road. Raymon played both offense and defense as a tight end and defensive end. His numbers are much more impressive at defensive end though, and that's where he'll most likely line up at Iowa.

Stats:
  • Offense - 3 catches, 72 yards, 1 TD (also had a rushing TD)
  • Defense - 72 tackles

Quick Thoughts:
At 6-5 Raymon has some pretty good size. He should be able to put on a little weight (he's around 245 right now) and be a big DE or move inside to tackle. He's got a giant wingspan and is very athletic so he may be a little bit more like Binns than Clayborn. From the sound of things too, he's the type of guy you want to come to Iowa. He had a tough upbringing that he overcame and now he's looking to play for national championships.
