2011 Iowa Recruiting: Receivers

on

Current Players

Seniors: 7 - Nordmann, Johnson-Koulianous, Kuchel, Sandeman, Chaney, Evans, Audlehelm
Juniors: 3 - McNutt, Steibrecher, Mungongo*
Sophomores: 2 - Davis, Staggs
RS Freshmen: 4 - Hurt, Pregont, Cotton, Kelly
Freshmen: 2 - Chelf, Martin-Manley

*Mungongo wasn't on the spring prospectus, but I'm not sure what happened to him. If he still is on the team, he probably wouldn't be seeing the field anyway.

For 2010, Iowa is as deep at receivers as I can ever remember. Going forward, however, receiver is a huge need for the 2011 recruiting class. Iowa typically plays 5 or 6 receivers a game and sometimes more (I think 8 different receivers saw time against Iowa State last year). Looking at Iowa's roster there are barely 5 to 6 receivers that are going to be left after this year. McNutt and Davis will likely be the starters in 2011, with Cotton the 3rd option. After that, there is nobody even remotely proven.

2011 Needs: 4 (2 already committed, need 2 more)

Prospects Offered

Marcus Grant - Groton, MA | NR
Links: Scout, Rivals
Grant committed to Iowa a few weeks ago.

JaCorey Shepherd - Mesquite, TX | NR
Links: Scout, Rivals
Shepherd committed to Iowa a few weeks ago.

DeAnthony Arnett - Saginaw, MI | Scout: 4*
Links: Scout, Rivals
Arnett is most likely going to stay instate (Michigan State) or head to a "big time" school like USC or Notre Dame.

DaVaris Daniels - Vernon Hills, IL | Scout: 4*
Links: Scout, Rivals
Daniels attended Iowa's Junior Day at the beginning of the year and has remained high on Iowa. However, he's been picking up a lot of offers and Notre Dame is currently his leader.

Andre Davis - Tampa, FL | NR
Links: Scout, Rivals
Davis is getting offers from all over, but has the most close to home in the SEC and some of the other Florida schools. I'd guess he'll stay down south, but could surprise me though and pick Iowa.

Hakeem Flowers - Greenville, SC | NR
Links: Scout, Rivals
Flowers has offers from everybody who's somebody. I'd be very surprised if he picks Iowa.

Darius Jennings - Baltimore, MD | Scout: 4*
Links: Scout, Rivals
Jennings attends Gilman School and was teammates with Jim Poggi and Anthony Ferguson, two player from Iowa's 2010 recruiting class. He plays quarterback in high school (though a wildcat QB), but would likely be brought in as an athlete or receiver.

A.J. King - Seffner, FL | NR
Links: Scout, Rivals
King only has offers from Iowa and Purdue right now, though I think he may be more interested in some other programs. However, if they don't offer, Iowa has a good chance.

Damiere Byrd - Erial, NJ | Scout: 4*
Links: Scout, Rivals
Iowa has had pretty good luck recruiting out of New Jersey, but Byrd has been accumulating offers from all over.

Evan Spencer - Vernon Hills, IL | Scout: 4*
Links: Scout, Rivals
Spencer's dad played and coached for Ohio State, so the Buckeyes seem like the obvious choice. However, he visited Iowa for the spring game and the Hawkeyes are high on his list.

Brandon Phelps - Damascus, MD | Scout: 3*
Links: Scout, Rivals
Phelps may be a receiver or corner back or just brought on as an athlete. He has plenty of offers but seems high on Penn State, LSU, and Notre Dame.

Ashton Gaines - Detroit, MI | NR
Links: Scout, Rivals
The Hawkeyes was the first and only team to offer Gaines and he visited Iowa City recently. Iowa is on top of his list for now.

Quentin Gardener - Devton, TX | NR
Links: Scout, Rivals
Gardener only has 3 offers so far and the others come from Minnesota and Wake Forest.

Jonathan Lee - Allen, TX | Scout: 3*
Committed to Baylor.

Jeremiah Hendy - Bowie, MD | Scout: 3*
Committed to Maryland.

Cameron White - DeSoto, TX | NR
Committed to TCU.
