2011 Iowa Recruiting: Linebacker

on

Current Players

Seniors: 4 - Tarpinian, Hunter, Johnson, Petersen
Juniors: 3 - Nielsen, Tillison, Davis
Sophomores: 2 - Pryor, Olson
RS Freshmen: 3 - DiBona, Kloos, Kreiter
Freshmen: 4- Gray, Morris, Kirksey, Poggi

Despite loosing 2 starters at linebacker, the Iowa Football team is still a veteran group and features a lot of upperclassmen. In 2011, the starting 3 spots could very well be all seniors with Nielsen, Tillison, and Davis, which leaves 2012 with very little experience. The coaches will need to start working in some of the underclassmen, and especially the incoming 2010 freshmen. Morris is one player who could quickly make an impact, but Iowa still will have a lot to replace.

2011 Needs: 4

Prospects Offered

Quinton Alston Erial, NJ | Scout: 3*
Links: Scout, Rivals
Alston has been leveraging a little bit of social media to collect over 20 offers. His mom is blogging about the recruiting process and he's semi-active on Twitter (@Quinton2349). Iowa was early to offer Alston, but I'm guessing he's shooting for a traditional power.

Armonze Daniel Avon, IN | Scout: 3*
Links: Scout, Rivals
Daniel would like to go to Auburn, but the Tigers haven't offered yet. He seems to have an SEC lean, but it's Big Ten schools that have been offering him thus far. If he doesn't land that SEC offer he's hoping for, Iowa might have a shot.

Cole Fisher Omaha, NE | Scout: 3*
Links: Scout, Rivals
Growing up in Omaha, Nebraska is Fisher's dream school. However, the Huskers haven't offered him yet. If they don't offer soon, Fisher will end up a Hawkeye. Iowa is basically the only other school on his list.

Melvin Spears Allen, TX | Scout: 3*
Links: Scout, Rivals
Spears currently has just 2 offers: Iowa and Minnesota. If he decides to leave his home state of Texas, Iowa is probably at the top of his list.

Nick Menocal Miami, FL | NR
Links: Scout, Rivals
Iowa is probably the best school to offer Menocal thus far, but he is starting to pick up offers from all over the country. It's too early to tell if Iowa has a shot or not with this one.

Videl Nelson Kansas City, MO | NR
Scout, Rivals
Iowa, Illinois, and Wyoming are the only schools to offer Nelson thus far, but he's also looking at some Big 12 North teams. Iowa should have a good chance with Nelson.

Kevin Snyder Mechanicsburg, PA | NR
Links: Scout, Rivals
Iowa was one of the first to offer Snyder, but is competing with some other schools that are closer to Snyder's home. Rutgers seems to be pretty high on his list.

Armstead Williams Monroewille, PA | Scout: 3*
Links: Scout, Rivals
Williams has quite a few offers from around the Big Ten, but is very interested in playing in the ACC. His teammate Dondi Kirby, also has an Iowa offer, but is probably leaning towards Ohio State.

Ejuan Price Pittsburgh, PA | Scout: 3*
Links: Scout, Rivals
Iowa is mostly competing with east coast schools over Price. However, Ohio State and Michigan State have also offered. If I had to guess, Pitt is probably in the lead right now.

Jake Keefer Baldwin, WI | Scout: 3*
Committed to Wisconsin.

Deryck Gildon Arlington, TX | Scout: 3*
Committed to TCU.
