Shortly after the announcement came that the Iowa Hawkeyes had received its first verbal commitment, Marcus Grant, @HawkeyeFootball on twitter broke the news that there were in fact 2 players that had committed. Shortly thereafter, both Rivals and Scout confirmed that JaCorey Shepherd, another wide receiver, had indeed made his verbal commitment to the Iowa Football program.

Shepherd in High School

Shepherd currently attends Horn High School in Mesquite, Texas. In 2009, the Horn Jaguars finished just 6-5 falling in the first district round of the playoffs. As a junior, Shepherd was the Offensive Newcomer of the Year in his district.

Stats:
  • Receiving - 46 catches, 672 yards, 7 TDs
  • Punt Returns - 10 returns, 113 yards
The punt return yardage was the highest in his district. He also had an amazing 11 catches in one game last year.

Quick Thoughts:
I failed to find much information on Shepherd. I didn't really see any video or much chatter about his play. Maybe we'll have more come out his senior year. Looking at his stats, he started picking things up the second half of the year, so hopefully he can carry that into his senior season. He could also use a little bulking up at just 5'11", 170 lbs. This class definitely needs wide receivers, so it's good to him Shepherd on board early.
