After attending Iowa's summer camp this week, Austin Vier from Huxley, Iowa verbally committed to the Hawkeyes. Vier becomes the second in-state commit (the first being James Morris, a linebacker from Solon) for the 2010 class. Vier is being recruited as an athlete and is projected to play either quarterback and tight end. At 6'7" he would be one of the tallest players on the team (only offensive lineman Matt Tobin would be taller at 6'8").

High School: In his junior year as a Ballard Bomber, Austin Vier was 57 of 118 (48.3%) on passes and passed for a total of 661 yards. He also threw for 6 touchdowns, but had 12 interceptions. Though those numbers aren't great, he did lead the team to a 3A Sub-state birth where they lost to Clear Lake. Vier is also on the basketball team (makes sense since he's 6'7") and averaged 10.7 points per game last year.
